The gardens you see in this photo are at the Château de Villandry. The château, built on the banks of the Loire, was completed in approximately 1536. By 1906, the Château de Villandry was in disrepair and about to be demolished. Dr. Joachim Carvallo purchased the Château de Villandry, saving it from destruction. Dr. Carvallo gave up his career to rebuild the château and restore its gardens.Today, the Château de Villandry is a World Heritage Site and is open to the public. The Carvallo family still owns the château, which is now one of the most visited châteaux in France.
